Your mouth was hanging open
Face of confusion, your tongue dry
Eyes always blank and sunken
I said I gave it the college try

You wouldn’t let me repair you
Breathe life into your heart
Mend your spirit open
Times of joy were a la carte

Five years went by so blindly
How could I sink this deep?
Tried to hold you up with me
But thick in mud you’d keep

You wouldn’t climb those mountains
Among friends I wasn’t proud
Your life stifled by addiction
So I wiped my tears and bowed

My love can’t be my project
I’ve got enough work on my own
I seek a partner uplifting
Or I’d rather be alone.

KM IS A RESTAURANT MARKETER AND CAT MOM. SHE ENJOYS COOKING, ROAD TRIPS, AND VOLUNTEER WORK. SHE THINKS VULNERABILITY IS REALLY HARD.
